Synthetic Drugs in Denton

Did you know?

Club drugs…designer drugs…illegal synthetic substances go by many names. Their origins in small, unregulated labs make it impossible to know what’s in them or how potent they are.

Depending on their ingredients, synthetic drug reactions can have a wide range of negative effects on those who use them. Anxiety, seizures, losing consciousness and even death have been reported in conjunction with their use.

While they’re not interchangeable, there is an overlap between synthetic and date rate drugs. Tragically, overdose is a greater risk when users ingest a cocktail of synthetic and traditional drugs plus alcohol.

Some things in today’s world aren’t like the “good ole’ days” – illegal drugs included. Synthetic drugs hit retail store shelves and gas stations several years ago. Although the DEA has scrambled to outlaw synthetic drugs and their compounds since 2011, some forms are still easily obtainable through online outlets and others who sell them “under the table.” Some work-around the DEA’s regulations and change the chemical compounds.

What are synthetic drugs?

Unlike traditional marijuana that grows in the ground, synthetic drugs are made up of chemical compounds. Masked as drugs offering similar effects to traditional cannabis (marijuana) or other common drugs, synthetic drugs actually offer intensified and more dangerous effects. Synthetic drug “highs” have resulted in ER room visits, comas and fatalities.
